I spent a good while in the car this week. One of the pros and cons of modern vehicle technology is DVD players and TV screens.
My kids have this DVD that feature’s Disney sing-along songs from the 80s/90s… and they love to play it on road trips. Every time that “Making Memories” comes on, I get a jab from my wife along with a reminder from everyone in the car that this is my song.
So, dear photography friends, if you haven’t heard it before, it’s embedded above. (I heard it more than a couple times this week.)

Adobe has revealed its annual update the Elements software series with Photoshop Elements 14 and Premiere Elements 14.

Phottix has unveiled its new Laso transmitter and receiver. The units work the the Canon RT system.
While that’s nothing new for a third-party transmitter, the receiver unit is a no-brainer for someone who has a bag full of 580EX Speedlites and is starting to integrate 600EX RT units into their kit. Just add the receiver onto your 580EX, pair it with the Laso transmitter (or the Canon ST-E3-RT or 600EX RT) and you have a flash that works with the Canon RT system, which you can now mix with newer 600EX RT Speedlites. Shooting on a black background can create a great, contrasty image. Shooting a black product on a black background, however, can be tough to get right in camera.
This video from Karl Taylor and Broncolor shows us how to properly rim-light a product to create separation from a black background. The video goes on to show how to light from different angles to create or cancel reflections, as well as how to bring in LED lights from a product by extending an exposure time.

Epson has announced its new PictureMate PM-400 Personal Photo Lab printer for borderless 4×6 and 5×7 prints.
The PM-400 prints 4×6 photos in as little as 36 seconds and is capable of printing without a PC. The new PictureMate model also functions as a complete wireless solution with Wi-Fi Direct and seamless printing from an iPad, iPhone, tablet or smartphone.
The Epson PictureMate PM-400 Personal Photo Lab retails for $249.99 and should start shipping in the next couple of weeks. Check it out here at B&H Photo.

Transcend has launched a new line of SD cards that feature a UHS-II bus and are Speed Class 3 rated for 4K video capture. They offer a max read speed of 285MB/s and a max write speed of 180MB/s. The Speed Class 3 rating guarantees a minimum sustained write speed of 30MB/s. [Read more…]
