Lightroom 6 on April 15?

April 7, 2015 By Eric Reagan

Lightroom 6

We had a flurry of possible dates in March on which Lightroom 6 was supposed to be released. Now, it seems the same thing is happening again this month.

I received another tip today that pegged April 15 as the release date for Lightrooom 6 per a second-hand industry source. Just a couple days ago, the release was pegged for April 21 via another supposed “leak.”

Until Lightroom 6 is officially out, however, we will have to continue to take these rumored releases with a grain of salt.

If you know something we don’t about the release of Lightroom 6, feel free to drop a line via the contact form.

More Lightroom 6 Details and Pricing Leak Out

March 16, 2015 By Eric Reagan

Lightroom 6

Lightroom 6 is turning out to be one of the leakiest products Adobe has released in a while. Now, an eagle-eyed reader has spotted the product over on Best Buy’s site with a price of $149.99 for the full version and $79.99 for the Student and Teacher Edition. Both of these prices were expected, as that has been the default pricing scheme for Lightroom version for several years now. [Read more…]

Using Photoshop Smart Objects with Lightroom

February 22, 2015 By Eric Reagan

In his latest video, Karl Taylor and Adobe’s Richard Curtis look at the power of integration between Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop using smart objects and linked camera raw settings.

Curtis covers some pretty cool landscape editing approaches. The tutorial clocks in at 27 minutes but is worth the watch if you have not explored the relationship of Smart Objects in Photoshop and Lightroom.

Lightroom 6 Box Art and New Features Leak Out

February 19, 2015 By Eric Reagan

Adobe-Lightroom-6

The launch of Lightroom 6 appears to be just around the corner with March 9, 2015 being the suspected release date. Photo Rumors uncovered a leak at a French retailer of the new Lightroom 6 box art (seen above) and some of the key new features, which look very impressive.

The big new features include:

  • Face recognition without metadata tagging
  • Merge to HDR for combining multiple photos with different exposures into a single HDR image
  • Fusion panoramas for merging multiple files (including RAW files) to create panoramas in Lightroom
  • GPU acceleration for image editing
  • Sophisticated video slideshows that allow you to combine images, movies and music, along with adding Ken Burns effect to images
  • Optimized web galleries with HTML5 compatible galleries

These are all great additions if this leak turns out to be legit. Based on other info in the leak, there appears to be a retail prices for Lightroom 6, which would negate some rumors that have been floating around suggesting that Lightroom 6 would make the exclusive move to Creative Cloud. Of course, you still need Creative Cloud to take advantage of some of the great features inside of Lightroom mobile.

As noted previously, Lightroom 6 will be a 64-bit only application and will require Windows 7 or higher; or OS X 10.8 or higher to run.

Lightroom 6 Moving Exclusively to 64-bit Operating Systems

January 21, 2015 By Eric Reagan

Lightroom 6 Mockup

Adobe has been churning out steady releases of Lightroom for nearly 10 years now – since the very first beta hit in 2006. I’ve been using it since those early days and it was a fresh take on non-destructive image editing. It is a fantastic program for both developing and organizing RAW image files.

It is supported over a wide range of operating systems for both Mac and Windows computers. However, that list of supported systems is about to drop.  [Read more…]

Lightroom mobile for Android Phones Now Available

January 15, 2015 By Eric Reagan

Llightroom Mobile Android

Lightroom mobile is now available for Android phones. Previously, Adobe had released Lightroom mobile for iPad and iPhone.

Now, all of you Samsung Galaxy and Note users, along with other Android devices devices that meet the minimum requirements of a Quad Core CPU with 1.7GHz ARMv7 architechture, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage and Jellybean, KitKat or Lollipop OS.

Key Lightroom mobile capabilities include:

  • Sync edits, metadata and collection changes to the Lightroom catalog on a Mac or Windows computer
  • Automatically import images from the smartphone gallery and sync back to the Lightroom catalog on the desktop
  • Edit images using familiar Lightroom tools and presets, including non-destructive processing using Smart Previews
  • Quickly flag and reject photos

Of course Lightroom mobile requires a Creative Cloud subscription in order to sync your Lightroom catalog from you Mac or PC, but it is no additional cost if you are a Creative Cloud member. You can download Lightroom mobile for Android here on the Google Play Store.

In addition to Lightroom mobile, Adobe has also launched Lightroom web, which is a new way to view and share your photos from any web browser. You can find more info about Lightroom for web here on lightroom.adobe.com. If you already have a Creative Cloud account, your sync galleries are already on Lightroom web for you to see now.
