Nikon unveiled the Nikon 1 J4 mirrorless camera a couple weeks ago in the middle of all the NAB 2014 news; however, it appears that the camera will not be available in the US.
The J4, like the Nikon 1 J3, still offers several powerful features though for such a compact camera. Of course, it retains the 1″ class sensor for a 2.7x crop factor (also known as Nikon’s CX format). The sensor is an 18MP CMOS with a Hybrid AF that sports 105 phase detect AF points on the sensor. Recent rumors suggest that we will see a pair of new Canon TS-E tilt-shift lenses added to Canon’s lineup in September for Photokina 2014.
The current TS-E 45mm f/2.8 and TS-E 90mm F/2.8 are well-overdue replacement; however, rumors point to only the 45mm lens getting a direct replacement while the other TS-E lens in the pipeline with be a “longer focal length” but not a 90mm lens. [Read more…]

In the fourth video, he shows off some expert dual flash techniques by using a long exposure in a dark studio to fire strobes at different times while removing modifiers in the dark. Really smart stuff.

A recently published patent application reveals a new 10-36mm f/1.8-2.8 lens designed for Sony’s 1″ sensor cameras, which results in a 28-100mm equivalent zoom range. The current RX100 and RX100 II feature a 28-100mm equivalent lens; however, the variable max aperture ranges from f/1.8 at the wide end to f/4.9 at the long end. [Read more…]
