Tokina has announced a new cinema lens – the 16-28mm T3.0 cine lens. It has its optical roots in the popular Tokina AT-X 16-28mm f/2.8 PRO lens. Of course, the cine version is kitted out with standard gearing for the focus and aperture rings.
Additionally, the new cine lens gets a substantially higher price tag. In Japan, it retails for ¥580,000, which is slightly less than $6,000 when converted to US dollars. That would make it close to 10x more expensive than Tokina’s standard AT-X 16-28mm f/2.8 PRO lens.
The PL-mount version of the lens should ship sometime in September, while the EF-mount option is expected to be available in November. Stay tuned for official pricing and availability.

Another interesting leak situation happened with Sony’s rumored NEX-7R, which is expected to serve as the replacement for the highly-regarded Sony NEX-7.
As noted by Sony Alpha Rumors:
New York fashion Photographer Clayton Nelson shared a couple of pictures he has taken “with the Sony NEX-7R, a new prototype APS sensor digital camera” (these are his own words).
The shared images have sinced been removed from Nelson’s Facebook account; however, there seems to be a lot coming together that makes this sound very legit.
Previous rumors suggested that the NEX-7 replacement would be unveiled in October 2013 (likely prior to PhotoPlus 2013 that occurs at the end of October). This would be a big camera for this rather large show and would give Sony a nice chunk of press for the prosumer crowd leading into the holiday season.
Additionally, the Sony NEX-7 successor (previously referred to as the NEX-7N) has been rumored to stick with a 24MP APS-C sensor instead of pushing its luck with a higher-MP offering.

After the recent introduction of the Sony A3000 (an E-mount camera), I have been wondering whether or not Sony would move exclusively to the E-mount and leave the legacy A-mount system in the past. If statements attributed to Sony UK’s head of digital imaging, Frederik Lange, are accurate, then Sony plans to keep on making A-mount cameras. [Read more…]

Prior to the release of the latest Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II lens, there were rumors that a prototype of a version with Canon’s Image Stabilization was undergoing testing. Then, the new lens came along, it didn’t have IS, and word of any kind of possible replacement with image stabilization died out.
A recently published Canon patent document reveals that Canon has, in fact, developed such a lens. [Read more…]
