Canon has released new firmware for the EOS M. Firmware version 2.0.2 is supposed to address the AF speed issues that are so detrimental to the enjoyment of an otherwise good camera (read my EOS M Review). Additionally, it adds support for the new EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens.

Alongside the full frame RX1R, Sony has announced the Cyber-shot RX100 II, which is the refreshed follow-up to the popular RX100. Sony claims that the new 1″ sensor in the RX100 II is roughly 40% more sensitive in dimly lit situations than the original RX100 (and the RX100 was no joke either). [Read more…]
My Vivitar camera backpack has way outlived its shelf life, with ripped dividers and nowhere near enough protection for my gear, and it was time for a replacement. Initial research showed that nearly any of the name brand offerings were out of reach, ranging from $130 for the Think Tank Retrospective Bags, to $300-400 for their rolling cases. While these products are worth every penny typically, my lean budget wasn’t going to accomodate it.
A Cheesycam article perked my interest in creating my own solution out of a padded divider from Calumet, along with a cheap rolling suitcase from a big box store, but those dividers are currently backordered. The Sony RX1R is a new full frame compact camera with a 24.3MP sensor and a fixed Carl Zeiss Sonnar T* 35mm f/2 lens. Unlike the Sony RX1, the RX1R has no optical low-pass filter in order to take full advantage of high resolution full frame sensor for fine detail. [Read more…]
Sony’s new full frame RX1R and advanced compact camera, the RX100M2, have leaked out ahead of their official release dates. The RX1R will feature a full frame 24MP sensor without an anti-aliasing filter.
As you can see, the new RX100M2 adds a hot shoe to the camera, which was something that was missed on the excellent RX100. It also adds a tilting LCD screen, as opposed to the fixed LCD on the RX100. Otherwise, the RX100M2 sports the same 1-inch 20MP sensor and 28-100mm equivalent zoom lens.

DxO Labs has rated the best lenses for the Nikon D600 according to their overall scores based on tests in DxOMark. 72 different lenses were tested with the highest score going to the Nikon AF-S 85mm f/1.4G and the AF-S 85mm f/1.8G lenses both getting a DxOMark score of 40.
It’s interesting to see the dropoff in scores from prime to zoom lenses. The highest rated zoom lens was the Nikon AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8G ED with a DxOMark score of 28.

Triggertrap has updated its iOS app and added a new piece of hardware that allows the app to trigger flashes instead of the camera. The results allow the Triggertrap app and flash triggers to be easily used for high-speed photography captures with a response time as low as 5 milliseconds. [Read more…]
For those of you who access Photography Bay via Google Reader, things are going to change on June 30, which is when Google is officially killing off Google Reader.
I’ve used Google Reader for years and was very sad to hear this news. However, there are some other options out there.
One of the best is Feedly, which is what I switched to. You can migrate your Google Reader account directly to Feedly with little more than a login. Feedly keeps your organization pretty close to the same and works much like Google Reader.
If you’re tired of dealing with RSS feeds, you can keep up with the latest stuff on our Facebook or Twitter accounts. Additionally, you can subscribe via email to have posts delivered directly to your email.
