Macs aren’t always the easiest to deal with for upgrading internal components. The new iMacs are locked down to only RAM upgrades and the Macbook Pro Retina models have zero internal upgradeable parts. So, when Apple announced its trashcan-looking Mac Pro, most of us figured that would be the end of upgrading components inside the Mac Pro as well. As it turns out, it’s not as bad as we feared. Aperture 3

Apple has issued an update to Digital Camera RAW to version 5.03, which adds RAW image support for the Canon EOS M2 in Aperture 3 and iPhoto ’11. The update also resolves an issue that prevented lens correction from working properly with Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 images and address a color cast issue on some Olympus OM-D E-M1 images.

The update is available through the Mac App Store’s “Updates” tab.

Final Cut Pro X Background Rendering in OS X Mavericks Not Working? Turn Off App Nap.

December 24, 2013 By Eric Reagan

One of the grand new features in OS X Mavericks is App Nap, which saves on power to extend battery life on MacBooks. One of the unfortunate side effects is that is kills background rendering in Final Cut Pro X and other apps that take advantage of background rendering.

To make background rendering work again, simply turn off App Nap. The process is simple.

  1. Right-click on the application.
  2. Choose Get Info.
  3. Check the box “Prevent App Nap.”
  4. Enjoy background rendering again.

December 23, 2013 By Eric Reagan

Final Cut Pro X

Along with the release of the new Mac Pro last week, Apple quietly released an update for Final Cut Pro X. The new 10.1 update adds a ton of new features – some of which are rather big.

Final Cut Pro X has totally changed the way that it organizes media. The new method makes use of libraries, events and projects. It offers the ability to only load the library of events that you are working on without loading all other events you have ever created. I’ve embedded a quick primer video on the new library system in FCP X below. [Read more…]
