Turns out Arizona Cardinals Wide Receiver Larry Fitzgerald is quite the photography enthusiast. He got deeper into photography when his point and shoot camera didn’t do the scene justice when visiting the Roman Colosseum. [Read more…]
Canon 60D Review
The Canon 60D is prosumer DSLR with video capture prowess. It sports an 18MP APS-C format sensor and a swivel LCD. As the successor to the Canon 50D, it’s somewhat of a change in the natural progression of the xxD line of cameras. A smaller form-factor gives it a more Canon Rebel look and feel; however, the video features and articulating LCD display take it up to and beyond some of the capabilities of the Canon 7D and 5D Mark II.
To see whether the Canon 60D is right for you, read on. [Read more…]
Nikon D5100 Availability Update
It seems that Nikon D5100 is quite hot item. Amazon is pretty thin on stock right now and appears to only have availability through third-party vendors at the moment.
B&H Photo has updated its stock status to show the D5100 as “Available for Pre-Order” which generally means that B&H has stock on the way and will be shipping it out in a matter of days. Here’s the link to the D5100 product page at B&H Photo.

Sony A55 Review
The Sony A55 is the next big step for Sony, which busted onto the scene with the A300 and A350 DSLRs almost 3 years go with their fast live view autofocus. The A55’s live view autofocus is a step above pretty much everything else on the market, including Sony’s prior models. And that, is the biggest and best feature on the A55.
The A55 has a 16.2MP CMOS sensor for high-res stills and also captures full 1920 x 1080 HD video. As an entry-level DSLR, the A55 delivers solid results in both categories. [Read more…]

iPhone Might Kill DSLRs? Um, Not Quite
I’m writing this about iPhones almost a year to the day that Nokia’s VP declared its smartphones will replace DSLRs. The sensational headlines and Apple-associated stories are a bit out of control since the NY Times reported on the iPhone 4’s popularity (based on the number of images uploaded) on Flickr. Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8G Lens . . . It’s About Time!
If there has ever been demand for a company to produce a single lens, it’s the Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8 lens. Ever since the Nikon D40 came out (with it’s lack of AF motor), Nikon users have been clamoring for something to replace the staple 50mm f/1.8D lens. Heck, I even wrote an open letter to Nikon last year pleading for this lens with a built-in AF motor.
And, finally, it appears that they have. [Read more…]
Atomos Ninja Hands-On
I checked out a lot of cool new stuff at NAB 2011; however, one of the coolest pieces of tech that I got up close with was the new Atomos Ninja HDMI-based recorder. In short, the Atomos Ninja captures the uncompressed stream from your camera’s HDMI output. The stream is captured as Apple ProRes HQ in a much higher quality than what goes through your camera’s compression onto the CF or SD card. [Read more…]
