B&H has the original Canon 6D for $999, which is less than half the price it was when originally released. This is a new low bar for entry into the Canon full frame realm. My guess is that this is the lowest the camera will go as a US retail model and B&H is probably trying to clear out the remaining stock. Check it out here at B&H Photo.

Sony A7R III ties Nikon’s D850 with a 100 DxOMark Score
Last month, DxOMark reported that the Nikon D850 unseated the Sony A7R II with the best score for a full frame camera in its sensor evaluations. The Sony A7R II scored a 98, while the Nikon D850 scored a 100. Now that DxOMark has put the Sony A7R III through its paces, Sony is back on top – right next to the D850.
The Sony A7R III scored a 100 on the DxOMark sensor evaluation. While the Nikon D850 edged the Sony A7R III out in the color and dynamic range categories, the A7R III bested the D850 in the low light category.
The only cameras to beat the Sony A7R III and Nikon D850 are the Hasselblad X1D-50C and Pentax 645Z (both medium format cameras).
You can read more on the results and comparisons from the Sony A7R III’s evaluation here on the DxOMark website.
Canon Full Frame Mirrorless to Use New Sensor?

Canon Full Frame Mockup
Canon Rumors notes new rumors that suggest Canon will use a new, dedicated sensor for its upcoming mirrorless camera. As rumored, the upcoming full frame mirrorless won’t use the sensor from the 5D Mark IV or 6D Mark II. Additionally, we’re not expected to hear official word from Canon until Photokina 2018, which is slated for next August.

The Canon 6D Mark II May Not Be the Camera We Were Hoping For
I was pretty pumped with the Canon 6D Mark II was announced. It wasn’t announced with a lot of fanfare for its video quality and there was no 4K video under the hood. However, it looked like THE full frame camera to have if you were a serious photographer on a budget. Unfortunately, early tests are starting to show that the dynamic range is rather lackluster for a full frame camera in 2017. [Read more…]

Sony A9 Professional Sports Camera Unveiled
Sony has announced its new A9 mirrorless camera. As the flagship of its Alpha lineup, the Sony A9 features a 24MP full frame stacked CMOS sensor that captures up to 20 frames per second. It uses an electronic shutter for shutter speeds up to 1/32,000s and can shoot those high frame rates with no viewfinder blackout.
Using high-speed UHS-II SD cards (in its dual card slots), the Sony A9 can shoot up to 241 continuous (compressed) RAW images or 362 JPEG images at the 20fps burst rate. Sony has improved the processing speed in the A9 to be 20x faster than previous full frame Alpha models. The camera offers 693 phase-detect AF points with 60 AF/AE tracking calculations per second. It also features 5-axis in-body image stabilization with 5-stops of camera shake correction. [Read more…]

Nikon AF-S 105mm f/1.4E ED Lens Unveiled
Nikon has announced the new AF-S 105mm f/1.4E ED lens for $2199. The lens is FX mount with internal focusing with manual override and a rounded 9-blade diaphragm.
As you would expect from a lens of this caliber, it has three extra-low dispersion elements to reduce chromatic aberrations and Nikon’s Nano Crystal Coat to minimize flare. It has a minimum focus distance of 3.3′. This should be a killer portrait lens for full frame Nikon cameras.
The Nikon AF-S 105mm f/1.4E ED lens should be available in August. You can pre-order it now here at B&H Photo.
