Nikon has released a new superzoom lens for its DX camera line – the AF-S DX 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3G ED VR.
It offers a 16.7x zoom range and is 30% lighter than the previous 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G lens. The VR provides 4-stops of stabilization and it should ship in May for $899.95. Check it out here at B&H Photo.

Zeiss has announced its third Compact Zoom lens, the CZ.2 15-30mm T2.9 lens, to go along with the current CZ.2 28-80mm T2.9 and CZ.2 70-200mm T2.9 lenses. The new lens completes a broad range for the CZ.2 line, which is also the only full frame zoom cine-style lenses in the world. (Canon’s EOS Cinema zoom lenses only cover an APS-C sensor.) Nikon’s current instant rebate deals on many of its lenses end this week on Saturday, March 29. Panasonic has given us a release date and price for the previously announced Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras. The new 30mm-equivalent lens will be available in silver and black starting in June, and will be priced at $599. It is already available for pre-order here at B&H Photo.
Samyang has taken the wraps off of the lenses it has teased over the past week. While we thought that we might see AF lenses from Samyang, we ended up with new support for several mirrorless camera mounts in a trio of lenses. [Read more…]
Samyang is all about building some hype this week. It released another image on its Facebook page today teasing upcoming lenses. This time, three sillouhettes of lenses appear along with a message: “Coming Soon. Our past is just a story.”
Hopefully, we’ll find out in a couple of days just what those new lenses are…

Samyang’s current line of photo and cine lenses are well regarded for the optical performance and low price. Offering AF versions of these popular lenses should be a real boon to the company and customers alike.
We are finally seeing results from a lawsuit that Nikon filed against Sigma in May 2011. A judgment was issued against Sigma last month in Tokyo District court, which awarded 1.5 billion Yen to Nikon (close to $15M USD).
The dispute centers a number of Sigma lenses using vibration reduction technology. Nikon originally sought the equivalent of close to $150M USD; however, the judgment stated that the damages was equivalent to 15% of the profits of the violating products earned by Sigma, cutting damages down from the max profits of 10.1 billion Yen.
This has to be quite the blow to Sigma. The company has been a roll lately with awesome lenses like the 24-105mm f/4 OS and 18-35mm f/1.8 lenses. Hopefully, Sigma’s operations won’t be negatively affected in a manner that would delay future lens releases and Sigma’s momentum will continue to gain traction as a solid third-party lens maker.

As I read Nikon’s announcement of the new Nikon 1 V3 last night, I glanced over the pricing info and caught $999.95 in there. I was digging through the specs and figured that was a body-only price of the V3 since the kit was $1200. But that assumption was wrong.
When I re-read all the info, I realized that there is not a body-only option for the V3, but the pricing was for what appears to be a standard 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 VR lens. [Read more…]
