One Day On Earth – A Global Media Project on 10-10-10

Want to be a part of what could be the largest media project ever?  Check out what’s going on at One Day on Earth on October 10, 2010.

On October 10th, 2010, thousands of people from every nation around the world will film their perspective and contribute their voice to one of the largest participatory media events in history. The event will result in a feature documentary and online video archive that will showcase the diversity, conflict, tragedy, and triumph that can occur in one day on earth.

Panasonic LX5 Coming Soon?

The Panasonic LX3 has been one of the most popular point and shoot cameras since it was introduced in 2008.  Two years is an eternity in point & shoot camera world, but the Panasonic LX3 has remained one of the best-performing cameras around.

Canon Wonder Camera From the Future

This futuristic concept camera is on display at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai.  Features and specs include a wide to tele lens capable of reaching out to 5000mm focal length.  Additionally, the concept suggest the ability to capture images with everything in focus. Freelance Photographer for ProPublica & PBS Detained for Photographing BP Refineries

Freelance photographer, Lance Rosenfield, was confronted and detained by BP security, police officers and a DHS agent in Texas City, Texas as he was working on an assignment for ProPublica/PBS concerning a deadly accident caused by BP’s safety violations in 2005.

According to the report from ProPublica, Rosenfield was told that he would be “taken in” if he did not allow the police to review his photos.  Based on the report, when he complied, the police also allowed private representatives of BP to view the images as well. [Read more…]

Just passing along a little public service announcement – Rob Galbraith just published an in-depth look at the action-stopping power of the new Einstein monolight from Paul C. Buff.  The maker of Alien Bees monolights has really outdone himself.  Just, wow.

If you are looking for a studio or sports strobe that delivers above and beyond its sub-$500 asking price, take 20 minutes or so and dig in to Galbraith’s article here.

Sony NEX-3 / NEX-5 firmware version .02 – “3D Sweep Panorama function has been added; Improvement of ‘normal’ 2D Sweep Panorama shooting; Decreased power drain when the camera is switched off; Quicker start-up in low-light conditions.” [Sony website]

Panasonic ZS5 / ZS6 / ZR3 / TS2 firmware version 1.1 – “Optimization of Light amount for INON external flash(S-2000/D-2000/Z-240)” [Panasonic website]

Olympus E-PL1 Gets Augmented Reality Treatment

Olympus has launched an augmented reality demo for the E-PL1, which lets you demo the camera online with the help of your web cam.  When I received the email containing Total Immersion’s press release (the guys behind the augmented reality plugin), I was scratching my head a bit.  But then, I watched the below video and that better explained it (’cause it’s something you really have to see to get it – or maybe it’s just me).
