Apple has issued an update to Digital Camera RAW to version 5.03, which adds RAW image support for the Canon EOS M2 in Aperture 3 and iPhoto ’11. The update also resolves an issue that prevented lens correction from working properly with Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 images and address a color cast issue on some Olympus OM-D E-M1 images.
The update is available through the Mac App Store’s “Updates” tab.
As if the first round of dolled-up Sony RX100 cameras wasn’t enough, Hasselblad has unveiled 3 additional “special edition” models for the ripe price of $3175 each. Yes, the cameras perform virtually identical to the Sony RX100, but cost 6x the price. While the RX100 is a great camera, it’s not $3175 great.

The new Fujifilm XQ1 was introduced alongside the Fuji X-E2 mirrorless camera. The XQ1 is a compact camera that features Fuji’s unique 12MP X-Trans II CMOS sensor, albeit at a much smaller 2/3″ sensor format. Even though it has a smaller sensor, the XQ1 should stand as a direct competitor to the popular Sony RX100. [Read more…]

Hasselblad Stellar with olive wood grip
Hasselblad is, unfortunately, continuing its fall from grace with the upcoming Hasselblad Stellar compact camera that appears to be a straight-up rebadge of the popular Sony RX100. As with the nonsensical Hasselblad Lunar, the Stellar appears to have no significant features to differentiate it from the RX100 aside from the Hasselblad name and exotic wood grips. [Read more…]
Sony’s new full frame RX1R and advanced compact camera, the RX100M2, have leaked out ahead of their official release dates. The RX1R will feature a full frame 24MP sensor without an anti-aliasing filter.
As you can see, the new RX100M2 adds a hot shoe to the camera, which was something that was missed on the excellent RX100. It also adds a tilting LCD screen, as opposed to the fixed LCD on the RX100. Otherwise, the RX100M2 sports the same 1-inch 20MP sensor and 28-100mm equivalent zoom lens.

Several leaks and rumors point to a refresh of the excellent Sony RX100 (read my RX100 review) coming later this month. According to a leak of the RX100M2 manual, the camera will feature a hot shoe for attaching speedlights or other accessories and a tilting LCD screen. Additionally, the RX100M2 should feature the same 1-inch, 20.2MP CMOS sensor as is found in the current RX100. [Read more…]

The Sony Cyber-shot RX100 is a 20MP point and shoot camera. But this isn’t just any point and shoot camera. The RX100 sets itself apart from every other compact camera out there thanks to a much larger image sensor, which measures the same size as the Nikon 1 Series mirrorless camera system. Somehow, Sony managed to cram that sensor into a pocketable digicam.
