Sony Unveils Rugged Storage Drives
Sony recently introduced a new line of rugged, professional hard drives in SSD and standard spinning hard drive flavors. The SSD version (PSZ-SA25) is available as a 256GB capacity drive, while the spinning hard drives are available in 500GB and 1TB capacities (PSZ-HA50 and PSZ-HA1T). G-Tech G-Drive Mini Adds USB 3.0 and New 7200 RPM Drive
G-Tech unveiled a new G-Drive Mini at CES 2013. I’m a big fan of the old G-Drive Mini units that sport dual FireWire 800 connections. The new G-Drive Mini units keep the dual FW800 ports, but also add a USB 3.0 connection and a 1TB 7200RPM hard drive (up from 750GB). [Read more…]
OWC Aura Pro MacBook Pro Retina Upgrade and Envoy Pro External USB 3.0 SSD Kits
OWC has a new 480GB SSD drive that serves as an internal hard drive upgrade for the MacBook Pro Retina. The Aura Pro is available as a single replacement drive or with the Envoy Pro kit that features an enclosure with USB 3.0 connectivity for putting the original drive that you’re replacing and using it as an external drive.

Mac Pro Refresh Due Next Week w/ Thunderbolt & USB 3.0
Mac users have been waiting nearly two years for a refresh of the Mac Pro. Many have speculated over the last several months that Apple had quietly decided to axe the Mac Pro line altogether.
Recent leaks of product numbers and specifications all but confirm that Apple will, in fact, unveil a refreshed Mac Pro lineup next week at WWDC.
The new Mac Pros are rumored to feature 8-core Xeon E5 CPUs, Thunderbolt & USB 3.0. According to Apple Insider, the new Mac Pros are also rumored to “feature 1600MHz memory with 8 channels, SATA III/SAS 6-gigabyte-per-second drive connectivity, and PCI-Express 3 native support for video cards.”
I’ll have more info next week when/if the new Mac Pros are officially unveiled.
2TB External Drive for $80 – Deal Alert
Amazon has a Seagate 2TB USB 3.0 external HD for $80 right now. The last time this deal was up, it only lasted for a day.
If you’re still only sporting USB 2.0, you’ll be OK since USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with it too.
SanDisk 64GB Extreme Pro SDXC UHS-I Card Delivers on Speed
SanDisk has announced a new 64GB Extreme Pro SDXC UHS-I card to complement the existing line of 8GB to 32GB UHS-I cards announced earlier this year. With a max write speed of 90MB/s and 95MB/s read speed, the new 64GB UHS-I card blows away the Extreme Pro UHS-I cards that were announced in January, which clocked in at 45MB/s. [Read more…]
