Sony Sound Forge Pro Finally Comes to Mac

As Mac pro video users are scratching their heads on where to move for audio editing solutions after the demise of Soundtrack Pro, Sony has finally made Sound Forge Pro available on the Mac.

Sony redesigned the interface specifically for OS X and offers the ability to use legacy Sound Forge event-based editing as well.  It offers 64-bit/192kHz maximum quality and up to 32 channels simultaneous recording.

Sound Forge Pro Mac 1.0 starts at $269 and has a free trial available on Sony’s website.

Adobe Prelude CS6 Now Available as a Standalone Product

Adobe Prelude CS6,  which is software for ingesting and logging of file-based footage workflows, is now available as a standalone product. Prelude CS6 was introduced in April 2012 as a part of the CS6 Master Collection, CS6 Production Premium and Creative Cloud.

Prelude CS6 is now available as a standalone product exclusively from Adobe.com for $399 for a perpetual license.  As noted, Creative Cloud users get this with their membership.

MacBook Air Editing 4K RED Footage

The above video shows off some of the real world potential of Thunderbolt.  With the combination of a RED Rocket card and a Sonnet PCIe expansion chassis, even a little MacBook Air can chew through 4K RED footage at full resolution.

It was good to see some Thunderbolt products at CES 2012 finally starting to trickle into the market.  See coverage for LaCie, G-Tech and Western Digital for other Thunderbolt devices.

Deep inside the Technicolor booth at CES 2012 was a small table showing off some new color correction software from the same company that brought CineStyles to our Canon HDSLRs last year.

Technicolor CineLights is a program based on Technicolor’s award-winning DP Lights system and is intended for quick color correction such as dailies.  It’s not really intended as a finish grading tool; however, it does offer some keying, three-way color correction and a Look Library as part of CineLooks. Avid Leaks Details on Media Composer 6

Details on Media Composer 6 were briefly posted on Avid’s website.  Upgrades over MC 5.5 include native 64-bit, expanded file-type support with native RED, AVCHD, HDSLR footage support with no transcoding required, complete 3D end-to-end workflow, 7.1-surround audio support, and a whole lot more.
