Close-up Look at Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II 5-Axis Stabilization

April 7, 2015 By Eric Reagan

What exactly is the image sensor doing when the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II is shooting in less-than-stable situations?

That’s the question answered by YouTube user Fredrik Gløckner in the above video. He mounted a Panasonic GH4 right in front of the E-M5 Mark II’s lens mount and shook it around a bit. It was surprising to me just how much movement occurs as the E-M5 Mark II shifts its sensor in attempt to stabilize.

April 6, 2015 By Eric Reagan

The Syrp Genie is a fantastically simple device for creating complex time lapse sequences. I have a review forthcoming but, as a spoiler, I love it. The downside, however, is that it is rather bulky and costs over $800. [Read more…]

Canon’s New EF 50mm f/1.8 IS STM Lens Leaks Out?

April 4, 2015 By Eric Reagan

Canon-EF-50mm-f1.8-IS-STM-lens

This could very well be a low-res image of Canon’s upcoming EF 50mm f/1.8 IS STM lens, which has been rumored for quite some time. Photo Rumors received the image from a tipster with no further details about announcement time frame or availability.

Even from the low resolution image, it looks like it has a better build quality and certainly has a better focus ring that the $125 Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens. Of course, with Image Stabilization and the STM motor inside, I suspect this lens will run quite a bit higher than the “nifty fifty” seen below. [Read more…]

Blackmagic Fusion 7 VFX Software Now Running on Mac OS X

April 2, 2015 By Eric Reagan

Fusion 7 on Mac OS X

Late last year, Blackmagic Design unveiled Fusion 7 for Windows and made it free with a Studio version available for $995 with additional features. That was a big deal because it was previously a $5,000 application for high-end VFX work on Hollywood films like Maleficent, Edge of Tomorrow, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, The Amazing Spider-man 2 and The Hunger Games, as well as hit TV shows like Battlestar Galactica and Orphan Black.

Of course, we wondered at the time when Mac OS X support would be available. Well, it’s not quite on the market for Mac yet, but Blackmagic is already showing off support for OS X and will have more details available at NAB 2015 in just over a week.
