Contour, which I checked out at NAB 2012, announced 5 new camera mount kits today for its ContourROAM and Contour+ HD cameras. Additionally, there’s a new watersports kit that includes the ContourROAM camera in a ready-to-shoot kit.
The mount kits retail from $59.99 to $99.99 each. The new ROAM Watersports kit retails for $249.99. You can find Contour cameras and mounts at B&H Photo.

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory has designed a 3.2 BILLION pixel camera that it hopes to build in order to “capture the widest, fastest and deepest view of the night sky ever observed.” The above rendering of the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST) shows just how big this 3 ton camera will be next to a person. GoPro announced some pretty exciting stuff for the POV market at NAB 2012. A new firmware upgrade for the GoPro HERO2 called Protune adds 24p and 35Mbps data rate to the HERO2. In partnership with Technicolor, the new Protune update adds the ability to shoot with a flat Cinestyle developed by Technicolor.

The iSupport is a $49 iPhone camera rig, which basically gives you better handling and mounting options. It can handle a bare iPhone or an iPhone in a case. It also has a 1/4-20 thread on the bottom for tripod or heavier duty rig mounting.

The newest addition to Varavon’s Slidecam lineup are the aptly-named Lite800 and Lite600. I stopped by the Varavon booth at NAB 2012 to get a closer look at these new sliders. The sliders are very smooth and a great selection of mounting options. I’m hoping to get more time with them soon for a more in-depth look. In the mean time, check out the overview video below.

B&H has the Blackmagic Cinema Camera available for pre-order now. This camera was the big surprise of NAB 2012 and stole quite a bit of attention from the several mainstream camera makers. Everywhere I went, people were asking “Have you seen Blackmagic’s camera?”
The initial excitement over this camera reminds me of the 5D Mark II release back in 2008. The $3k price for a camera that shoots RAW video on an SSD drive, and uses Canon EF mount lenses is quite remarkable.
