Sony Set to Launch an APS-C G1 X Competitor?

Sony Alpha Rumors is pegging a compact Sony APS-C camera that will go head-to-head with the Canon G1 X.  Reportedly, the camera would use a pancake zoom lens to keep the size down.

I think Sony has a great thing going with the NEX line. So, I’m very interested to see what such a camera could add to Sony’s lineup.  If anything, I think a fixed-lens camera seems more accessible to a larger market.  This isn’t necessarily in terms of price (the Canon G1 X isn’t cheap), but rather in terms of perceived user experience. It’s been a little too quiet on the Sony front since the introduction of the uber-popular Sony A77.  So, it’s not really much of a surprise to hear rumors of a refresh to the full-frame Sony A900 and (even more so) the consumer-ish Sony A55. Sony HX9V for $299

B&H has the Sony HX9V point and shoot camera for $299 right now.  The HX9V is probably the best do-it-all point and shoot camera.  It captures great 16.2MP still images and captures HD video up to 1080/60p.   Unfortunately, I have not gotten around to completing my review of the HX9V; however, I give it high marks all around and think that it is worth every penny of the asking price.

Note that you’ll have to add the camera to your cart to see the deal price, which is good through Dec. 10.

Sony NEX-5N ‘Clicking’ Problem Update

I have heard from several Sony NEX-5N owners that the “performance improvement” offered by Sony for the NEX-5N’s clicking defect during video capture has been resolved.  I recently confirmed this for myself with several NEX-5N models that had the fix applied.  In all cases, the clicking was not audible to me anymore.

I’m revising my Sony NEX-5N review to reflect this solution and changing my recommendation for the NEX-5N as a highly-recommended camera.
