Canon G1 X Mark II Rumored for CP+ Unveiling

January 15, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Canon G1 X

The Canon G1 X was a bit of an odd bird when announced a couple years back at CES 2013 with its larger sensor (still not quite APS-C sized) and slow lens at f/5.8 max aperture on the telephoto end. Still, it looks like the camera was successful enough that Canon may announce a new model at CP+ next month.

Rumored specs for the Canon G1 X Mark II include the following: [Read more…]

Nikon D3300

Nikon announced its new entry-level DSLR, the D3300, last week at CES 2014.

The D3300 features a 24.2MP DX format sensor, which is the same as the D3200; however, the D3300 takes a cue from the Nikon D7100 and has no optical low pass filter. [Read more…]

Coremelt Launches TrackX, a New Motion Tracking Plugin for Final Cut Pro X

January 14, 2014 By Eric Reagan

TrackX Tracking in FCP X

Coremelt has launched new motion tracking tools in the TrackX plugin for Final Cut Pro X that leans on Mocha’s Academy Award-winning Planar Tracking technology to track people and objects in moving shots for compositing directly in FCP X. To track an object for compositing, just draw a shape around the object you want to track and the Mocha tracking engine will lock on and allow you to track text, do screen replacements, replace signs and more. It looks pretty freaking amazing. [Read more…]

DJI Responds to Phantom Flyaway Concerns and Safeguards in Phantom 2

January 14, 2014 By Eric Reagan

DJI Phantom

In July 2013, I posted an article detailing the numerous flyaway reports for the Phantom quadcopter that many users had experienced. It proved to be a very popular topic and users are still reporting issues and addressing possible solutions in this forum thread.

When I asked DJI about the issue via email last year, I received what seemed to be a basic troubleshooting response. Later in 2013, DJI released the Phantom 2 Vision and Phantom 2 quadcopter with additional features; however, the documentation for the Phantom 2 did not allude to any flyaway concerns relating to the original Phantom.

I attended DJI’s press conference at CES 2014, which highlighted the Phantom 2. After the press conference, DJI opened the floor for questions, at which time I presented the question from Photography Bay forum member and reader concerns regarding the original Phantom flyaways and whether the Phantom 2 takes into account any of these concerns with new safeguard to prevent flyaways. Samsung WB2200F is a 60x Superzoom with a Vertical Grip

January 13, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Samsung WB2200F

The Samsung WB2200F is a bit of a head scratcher. At a time when camera makers are packing longer zoom ranges into smaller camera bodies, Samsung has taken the opposite approach and made the WB2200F as a 60x superzoom with an integrated vertical grip. [Read more…]

Photoshop Photography Program Extended (Again) Through Feb. 28

January 13, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom Creative Cloud Deal

Adobe is beating this dead horse into the ground. I have lost count of how many times the Photoshop Photography Program has been extended.  This time, however, the deal is only available for those who own CS3 or later products, but the price remains $9.99/mo. And, yes, I do actually think this is a good deal, but Adobe is killing me with the on again/off again routine.

The Photoshop Photography Program offers access to Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 (plus respective feature updates and upgrades as they are available), 20GB of cloud storage and Behance ProSite, via Adobe Creative Cloud for $9.99/month as an annual subscription.

You can find more details here on Adobe’s website.
