If the EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM lens isn’t long enough for you, a recent patent application shows that Canon is working on an even longer lens – an EF 1000mm f/5.6L IS DO model. [Read more…]

We’re back on the waiting game for more info on the upcoming Canon 5D Mark IV. Everyone seems to be feeling good that the 5D Mark IV will be announced in time for Photokina 2016.

Rumors of the Canon 5D Mark IV continue to trickle in. The latest word comes from Canon Rumors, which believes Canon will launch the 5D Mark IV in the August/September time frame ahead of Photokina (in late September).
There are really no reliable specs for the camera at this point. Previous rumors have suggested everything from 28MP to 4K video to CFast card slots. None of those specs are either confirmed or ruled out at this point.
NAB is just about 10 days away, so the rumor mill may pick up a bit over the next couple weeks leading up to whatever Canon’s news is for NAB.

Several companies have released affordable super-telephoto zoom lenses recently (like the Nikon 200-500mm, Sigma 150-600mm & Tamron 150-600mm) and it looks like Canon may be adding to the mix. Canon Rumors reports that it has info from a reliable source of a Canon EF 200-600mm f/4.5-5.6 IS lens in development.
The lens may not be an “L” lens and, thus, wouldn’t necessarily compete with the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II lens. Accordingly, the lens is also expected to be offered at a lower price point than the 100-400mm.
No additional rumors on pricing or release dates; however, the 200-600mm lens is expected sometime this year.

Canon Rumors received a tip that a new 50mm lens is coming soon. While there are no specifics as to whether it is a replacement for the current 50mm f/1.4 or 50mm f/1.2 lens, the EF 50mm f/1.4 USM lens is over 30 years old and is ripe for replacement.
Canon Rumors rates this as a credible rumor and it’s certainly a needed replacement. So, hopefully, we’ll see something sooner rather than later.
Stay tuned.

A recently-published patent filing reveals a Canon 28mm f/1.4 lens possibly in the works. There is no 28mm fast L lens in Canon’s line-up so that would be a nice addition to the line to slot in between the EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM and the EF 35mm f/1.4L USM lenses.
Of course, a patent filing doesn’t necessarily mean a lens is imminent but these filings have been a pretty good barometer for lenses in the past. Note that this patent was filed in 2014 and just published this month.

Images and specs for the upcoming Canon Rebel T6 / 1300D have leaked out ahead of its official announcement. Overall, it looks like a very modest upgrade over the current Canon Rebel T5, which rounds out the bottom rung of the entry-level DSLRs below the Rebel T6s and T6i. [Read more…]

We are in pre-NAB territory now, so expect the video-centric rumors to pick up in the days ahead. As video and DSLRs go, there is nothing quite as juicy as a good Canon 5D-series rumor.
The latest in a long line of rumors about the Canon 5D Mark III successor suggests Canon will launch the EOS 5D X before NAB 2016 in April. [Read more…]
