Lightroom Mobile Now Available for iPad

April 8, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Lightroom mobile for iPad

Adobe has finally launched Lightroom mobile for iPad after teasing the app for the better part of a year. Before we get to the features, some readers will want to know up front that it is only available for Creative Cloud members. If you are part of the Photoshop Photography Program or a full Creative Cloud subscriber, Lightroom mobile is available to you at no additional expense.

Lightroom mobile now allows you to sync your iPad with your Lightroom 5 desktop library. Lightroom mobile uses Smart Previews to allow you to make non-destructive edits on your iPad, which will then sync to your desktop library.

Lightroom mobile requires an iPad 2 or later running iOS 7. You can download it here on the iTunes App Store. Adobe also notes that an iPhone version is coming soon. [Read more…]

Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5 for $9.99/mo Extended Again

April 1, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom Creative Cloud Deal

I wish Adobe would just go ahead and make this a permanent deal, but for now the Photoshop Photography Program, which includes Photoshop CC and Lightroom 5, for $9.99/mo has been extended through May 31, 2014.

There are no limitations for prior software ownership to join at this rate (as there have been in the past). You can sign up for the Photoshop Photography Program here on Adobe’s website.

(At the time of this post, Adobe’s site still has the offer end date as March 31; however, I have official confirmation from Adobe that the deal is extended through May 31.)

Adobe’s $10/mo Photoshop + Lightroom Subsciption Deal is Back on for Everyone

February 4, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Photoshop Photography Program

And . . . we’re back to covering this again. Adobe has been teasing the exclusivity of its Photoshop Photography Program for a good 5 months now. Initially, it was only available to previous customers with a CS3 or higher license. Then, Adobe opened it up to everyone for a little bit. Then, closed it back to only CS3 and up customers. Then, opened it and closed it and . . . . ahhhhh!

For whatever Adobe’s reasons are, the deal is back on again and there are no limitations to subscribe. The deal is available to everyone until March 31, 2014. After that, who knows what Adobe plans to do.

You can sign up for the Photoshop Photography Program here on Adobe’s website.

How To Transfer a Lightroom Catalog and Photo Library to a New Computer

January 1, 2014 By Eric Reagan

Lightroom Catalog Transfer

If you have been using Adobe Lightroom for very long, you might be in the situation where your image catalog has outlasted your current computer. Accordingly, when you upgrade your computer to something newer and faster, you will want to take advantage of that improved speed and begin using it for your image processing workflow. Of course, you also don’t want to lose access to all of the images you processed on your old computer.

Lightroom works by using catalogs that contain processing info related to the images in your Lightroom library. As such, the Lightroom catalog does not contain the actual photo files, but rather data concerning organizational and processing actions you’ve made while working with your photos inside Lightroom.

And simply plugging in a hard drive that contains all of your photos from your Lightroom library won’t carry over your final edits. As a result, you will want to take your Lightroom catalog along with you to the new computer. But how do you do that?

It’s a fairly straightforward process actually. Follow these steps and you will be able to pick up right where you left off with your old machine. [Read more…]

Improving iPhone Images in Photoshop

December 14, 2013 By Eric Reagan

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTKhA3bNSH4&w=640&h=360]

Adobe just added lens support for the iPhone 5S in Camera Raw 8.3. In this video Photoshop Sr. Product Manager Bryan O’Neil Hughes explains the process of improving iPhone images in Photoshop.

iPhone Editing in Photoshop

I do many of these same things with my iPhone images; however, I import my files into my Lightroom library. I generally just dump my iPhone images into my Lightroom library every so often. I use a dedicated folder simply labled ‘iPhone’ for each year, so that all of my photos from 2013 from iPhone are in a single folder. From there, I can edit and add to collections as I see fit and I can always go back to find images from my iPhone in a single folder. As an added bonus, all of these images are geotagged, so I have another way to sort if needed.

Do you guys use Photoshop or Lightroom for editing images from your iPhone or Android phone?
