Reminder: Sony’s A7S is Incredible in Low Light

We’ve seen many examples of the Sony A7S and just how good it is in low light. Well, here’s another that proves it is the low light king for affordable full frame cameras.

In this short preview video, Tony Northrup walks us through the high ISO settings of the Sony A7S, Sony A7 II and Nikon D810. The Sony A7S’ reach up to ISO 409,600 puts it just head and shoulders above the low light capabilities of the Nikon D810 and the A7 II.

Whether its the right overall camera for you, however, requires examining what you need out of the camera day to day. For low light shooting though, the Sony A7S remains in a league of its own.

Olympus Air A01 Camera Available for Pre-Order for US Customers

Air New Zealand’s Latest Commercial Relies on HDSLR & Time-Lapse Gear

Nikon Unveils New 500mm f/4 and 600mm f/4 Super Telephoto Lenses

Nikon has announced the new AF-S 500mm f/4E FL ED VR and AF-S 600mm f/4E FL ED VR lenses, priced at $10,300 and $12,300, respectively.

The new super telephoto lenses shave pounds off of their predecessors. The new 500mm weighs in at 6.8 lbs (compared to 8.5 lbs for its precessor), while the new 600mm lens weighs 8.3 lbs (compared to 11.5 lbs for its predecessor). [Read more…]

White House Ends Ban on Photography During Tours

MindShift Gear Unveils FirstLight Backpack Series

MindShift Gear has announced its new FirstLight camera backpack series, which accommodates DSLRs and big lenses in the 200mm to 600mm range. There are three backpacks in the new series: the FirstLight 20L, FirstLight 30L and FirstLight 40L.

MindShift Gear notes that these aren’t photography backpacks but outdoor backpacks designed specifically for photography. With 11 adjustment points, they allow for a custom fit for each user and are built for extend days of travel. [Read more…]
