Sony RX100 Hands-On Review

August 3, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Sony RX100

I have been using the Sony RX100 for about a week now and I have to say that it is a stunning little camera.  It packs 20MP CMOS image sensor and the fixed zoom lens provides 28-100mm equivalent zoom range with a max f/1.8 aperture.

The RX100 gives a proper use of that little 2.7x crop sensor that’s also found in the Nikon 1 Series.  And, best of all, it’s a pocketable camera. [Read more…]

Fuji FinePix F800EXR Offers Wireless Sharing via iOS and Android Devices

Fuji FinePix F800EXR

The Fuji FinePix F800EXR is a new 16MP point and camera with a 20x optical zoom lens (25-500mm equivalent).

Like the recently introduced Samsung MV900F and the Panasonic SZ5, the new F800EXR features built-in Wi-Fi compatibility.  Akin to the Panasonic SZ5, Fuji offers a free app that can be installed on Android and iOS devices, which will connect the F800EXR to your smartphone or tablet.  Using this app, you can download images from the camera to your mobile device and edit or share them as you see fit.

Additional features on the F800EXR include a 3-inch, 460K-dot res LCD, 1080p HD video capture and RAW image capture.

The Fuji F800EXR should be available in August for $349.95.  Check availability at B&H Photo.

Samsung MV900F with Wi-Fi Sharing and 180° Display

July 19, 2012 By Eric Reagan

Samsung MV900F

The Samsung MV900F is a new Wi-Fi enabled point and shoot camera, which also sports a 180-degree display. The MV900F features a 16MP backside-illuminated CMOS sensor and also captures 1080/60p HD video.

With similar connected functionality to the new Panasonic SZ5, the Samsung MV900F allows you to share photos instantly.  However, the Samsung model does not appear to be equipped with the ability to integrate with any iOS or Android model (like the SZ5).  Instead, the MV900F interfaces with Samsung’s line of SMART televisions, Blu-ray players, mobile PCs and smartphones.  That said, you can share directly to Facebook, Photobucket, YouTube and other online services directly from the camera via Wi-Fi.

The 3.3-inch AMOLED display flips up on top of the camera for a 180-degree view from the front of the camera – as opposed to the more traditional tilt/swivel displays that swing out to the left side.

The Samsung MV900F retails for $349, ships in August 2012 and is available here at B&H Phot0.

Samsung MV900F Display

Samsung MV900F Key Features

  • 16MP BSI CMOS Sensor
  • 3.3″ WVGA AMOLED Touchscreen
  • Full HD 1920 x 1080 Video at 60 fps
  • Dual Capture Photo and Full HD Video
  • Self-Portrait Features & Shooting Modes
  • Integrated Wi-Fi & Direct Connect Button
  • Capture Images via Gesture or Remote VF
  • Social Media Sharing & Auto Backup
  • Easy Photo Editing In-Camera
