Canon EOS 1D C Firmware Update 1.3.x Coming Mid-October

Canon has announced an upcoming firmware update for the EOS 1D C 4K cinema camera. The update addresses lens aberration correction with EF Cinema lenses and includes additional audio recording support via the external mic input.

SanDisk Unveils 256GB Extreme Pro CF Card

SanDisk Extreme Pro 256GB CF

SanDisk has released a new 256GB Extreme Pro CF card with minimum sustained write speeds of 65MB/s and max write speeds up to 140MB/s. Read speeds max out at 160MB/s.

The cards are UDMA Mode 7 compliant for fast buffer clearance on supported cameras. SanDisk touts the new high-capacity card as optimized for 4K video capture, which is further highlighted by the VPG-65 specification (i.e., min. sustained write speed of 65MB/s). [Read more…]

Sony Updates XQD Cards for 4K Video Capture Speeds

Sony XQD S-Series at 180MBs

Sony has updated its S-Series of XQD cards and introduces a new N-Series of XQD cards in response to the latest 4K camcorders introduced this week.

The Sony XQD card S-Series was previously spec’d at a max 168MB/s read/write speed. The updated S-Series now features a max transfer speed of 180MB/s, which will support stable workflows with XAVC 4K Intra 4:2:2 at 4096 x 2160/60p 600Mbps. Specifically, these new S-Series cards will accommodate the new Sony PXW-Z100 XDCAM camcorder. [Read more…]

Sony FDR-AX1 is a 4K Camcorder for $4.5K

Sony has finally taken wraps off of its FDR-AX1 4K camcorder that we first saw back at CES 2013. The Sony FDR-AX1 captures 3840 x 2160 4K video with the XAVC S codec. It captures 4K video at 150Mbps and 1080p video at 50Mbps.  [Read more…]

Back at CES 2013, I took a close look at a new 4K concept camera that Sony had under glass. There were virtually no specs listed for the camera other than that it was a 4K camcorder. The Basics of a One Light Setup

Here’s a short video from Jay P. Morgan (of The Slanted Lens) on using a one light setup. Interestingly, he is shooting a model with a Canon 1D C with 4K video and pulling stills from the video frames. Apple 5K Retina Display Coming?

With the new Mac Pro packed with enough power to run three 4K displays at once, it’s reasonable to question where those 4K displays are coming from. While there are a few 4K monitors available now, there are none from Apple. The 27″ LED Cinema Display offers 2560 x 1440 resolution; however, that’s still a far cry from full 4K resolution at 4096 x 2160, or UHD 4K at 3840 x2160.

With the upcoming release of OS X Mavericks, Apple has released a new desktop background available at a resolution 5120 x 2880 – or 4x the resolution of the current 27″ LED Cinema Display. [Read more…]

JVC Unveils 4K Camcorder with Nikon F-Mount
