Samung NX1 Firmware Update ver. 1.20 Released
Samsung has released a major firmware update for the new NX1 mirrorless camera. Firmware version 1.20 adds a ton of features and capabilities for shooting video.

Ever wonder how your non-photographer friends and family members think about being your stand-in? Now we know thanks to Jon Cole’s very witty (and likely spot-on) rendition of the camera test from the subject’s perspective.

While the drone market continues to expand, the legality of operating them continues to be more up in the air than ever before. Earlier this month, the FAA released a new directive to local law enforcement agencies on how to handle encounters with drone operators.

Best Hard Drive – 2015 Edition
Backblaze just posted its data on failure rates of hard drives that it uses in its data center. At the end of 2014, it had 41,213 drives active for storing all of the data in its unlimited backup service.
It uses a variety of hard drive capacities across HGST (formerly Hitachi), Seagate and Western Digital. There is everything from 1.5TB to 6TB drives in operation. [Read more…]
Tamron SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Lens Released
Tamron has released its new SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD lens for Canon, Nikon and Sony A mounts. Note, however, that the Sony A-mount version does not include the VC motor for image stabilization.
The lens offers full frame coverage with XGM and LD glass elements in the front group to minimize chromatic aberrations, along with Tamron’s eBAND and BBAR coatings to reduce ghosting and flare. It has a 9-blade aperture and features a built-in lens hood.
The Tamron SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD lens retails for $1199. Check it out here at B&H Photo.
